Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl is about cursed half- dead pirates, the crew of a ship called the Black Pearl. The Pirates are searching for the last piece of Aztec gold which they need to break the curse. They’re also searching for the son of the pirate’s blood they also need in order to break the curse. When they raid a town they go to the Governor’s house to search for more treasure. There they try to capture Elizabeth Swann, the Governor’s daughter. Elizabeth invokes the right of Parley and demands to see their Captain. The pirates who captured Elizabeth take her to Captain Barbossa, the Captain of the Black Pearl. In the prison in Port Royal where Jack Sparrow is being held Will Turner, a blacksmith makes a deal with him. He tells Jack that he can let him out if Jack will lead him to where the Black Pearl is moored so he can rescue Elizabeth. Then Jack and Will steal The Interceptor, a ship of the King’s Navy. They then travel to Tortuga to pick up a crew to help them go after Captain Barbossa and to help sail the ship. They follow after the Black Pearl, which is moored at Isle De Muerta, an island that only can be found if you already know where it is. When the pirates try to use Elizabeth’s blood to break the curse, it doesn’t work so they go in search of the blood they actually need, which is Will’s blood. When Will and Jack go to the Isle De Muerta to rescue Elizabeth Jack tells Will not “to do anything stupid”, but then Will knocks Jack out and goes and tries to rescue Elizabeth himself. When Jack wakes up the pirates find him and he tells them he knows whose blood they need to break the curse. They take Jack with them to their ship, then the pirates leave Jack and Elizabeth stranded on a deserted island. The same island Barbossa left Jack Sparrow on when he took over his ship, the Black Pearl. Johnny Depp plays Captain Jack Sparrow, a pirate obsessed with Rum. Captain Jack seems to act like your very typical storybook pirate. Sometimes he seems like a good guy, sometimes like a bad guy, it’s hard to tell. The evil Captain Barbossa is played by Geoffrey Rush, Orlando Bloom is Will Turner and Keira Knightly is Elizabeth Swann. The special effects in this movie were very well done. They did a good job of making the cursed pirates look realistic. There weren’t a lot of really gory scenes with too much blood in them, which was good. Sometimes it’s better to allow people to use their imagination instead of spelling out everything for them. A good example would be when the Governor throw’s a pirate’s severed arm into a drawer because it fell off when he hit it off the pirate who was trying to steal his wig. When he opens the drawer after the curse is broken you can just tell what the arm might’ve looked like by the expression on the Governor’s face, but they never show you the arm after he shuts it in the drawer. The fencing scenes were also were well done. The movie is fun to watch, even though some aspects of the plot were a bit unrealistic. A few of Captain Jack’s escapes look very improbable. But like Jack said, “improbable, but not impossible.” Only if you’re him, I suppose! The music in this movie matched the scenes very well and helped create the mood. This movie is well worth seeing. If you like comedy, action, romance and the odd explosion or two, you’ll enjoy it. I would recommend this movie to almost anyone except it would probably scare younger kids. The plot isn’t the most intriguing plot ever, but the movie is still definatly worth watching. The movie was well directed and the filming was good with the different camera angles, it allowed you to really follow what was happening.
